CHALLENGE YOURSELF

Grit OCR: East Walker Ranch features two courses, Claw and Fang, both will have a variety of challenging obstacles, including large obstacle rigs, carry obstacles, our unique signature obstacles, and environmental challenges in addition to tough trails and killer hills to conquer.

This isn't a gimmicky mud run, each obstacle is designed to test your strength, grip, agility, and endurance. You will feel the burn, sometimes you will want to give up. You will suffer through it and you will overcome it and make it to the finish line!

KEEPING IT FRESH

Every race we make adjustments to the course and obstacles to keep you on your toes. Obstacles will move to new locations, requirements may change, and some obstacles may get replaced, while new ones get introduced. It's our way of keeping it fresh for you every year.

Grit OCR Obstacle

2020/SANDBAG CARRY

Nothing sucked more than the year 2020, except for maybe this super long downhill and uphill sandbag carry on single-track trails. The one nice thing is the sweet photos of the suffering.

WEIGHT

  • HARDER: 60-LB Sandbag Carry (Red logo)
  • HARD: 30-LB Sandbag Carry (White logo)

RULES

  • Pick up a sandbag.
  • Cling on shoulders.
  • Complete trail loop with the sandbag.
  • Return sandbag once the loop is completed.

DENNIS THE MENANCE

Introduced in 2022 to break away from the physical challenge and give racers a technical challenge using a slingshot to hit the bullseye target.  For some, it will be easy, while others will struggle to hit the target.

RULES

  • Stand at the table, and use a slingshot.
  • Aim for the target and release.
  • Must hit the target before moving on.

BOO'S CLOSET

Face all kinds of monsters going through Boo's Closet as you test your grip and core strength traversing across a series of floating doors without touching the ground, at the end you'll reach a rope to climb before hitting the bell to dismount. You will need all the strength, wits, and grit to pull through this one so you are not taken out.

RULES

  • No touching the ground.
  • No grabbing or holding the top of doors.
  • Must hit the bell at end to dismount.
  • Okay to retry if you fall off, go to the back of the line.

HAMMER TIME

Our signature obstacle has you standing over a track and wielding a sledgehammer to use all your might to hammer the weight box up and down each way. Testing your strength, core, and focus.

DIFFICULTY

  • HARDER: Red Hammer
  • HARD: Black Hammer

RULES

  • Stand over the block with feet on each side of the raised platform.
  • Firmly hold sledgehammer.
  • Swing hammer down to hit the block.
  • Hit block back and forth on track one time to complete.

YOLK'D

Get yolk'd as you balance weight on your shoulders and walk for 200 meters. It's incredibly simple to do but requires a lot of core strength, stability, and coordination.

WEIGHT

  • MEN: 90-LB (Red)
  • WOMEN: 70-LB

RULES

  • Balance bar on shoulders.
  • Keep back straight.
  • Avoid swinging blocks.
  • Walk Yolk'd out and back route.
  • Return Yolk to starting position.

FLIP THIS HOUSE

Take a giant oversized wooden box weighing a few hundred pounds, lift it up on edge, tip it over, and flip it 4-times. Pushing and lifting with all your muscles to get this done. Working your legs, core, and upper body.

DIFFICULTY

  • HARDER: Red Boxes
  • HARD: Plain Boxes

RULES

  • Squat down, lock arms on top lip, use legs to lift.
  • Flip 2-times each way.
  • Non-competitive can have assistance if needed.
  • Keep the box in the lane.

OUT OF GAS

The classic farmer carry has you carrying two old school military jerry cans fully weighted through 300 meters of tough trail terrain. At first, it feels easy, but the weight in cans starts to weigh you down, the longer you go the harder it gets. You'll feel like your arms are ready to fall off when you finish.

WEIGHT

  • HARDER: 25-Liter Cans 43-LB Each
  • HARD: 10-Liter Cans 27-LB Each

RULES

  • Carry 2 gas cans.
  • Walk Out of Gas route and back.
  • Return cans to starting position.

HELL ON WHEELS

Take a modified 4-wheel wheelbarrow loaded with sand, lift with the handles and push out and back in a straight line. Switching sides at the halfway point.

RULES

  • Lift from handles.
  • Complete 1-lap out and back.
  • Switch sides at turnaround.
  • Keep the wagon in the lane.

FLAMING LEGS

Make use of the natural environment and cranking up the challenge as you carry a sandbag and then proceed to run up and down a series of steep hill inclines, seems easy at first, but by the 5th or 6th time up the hill your legs will feel like they are on fire!

WEIGHT

  • HARDER: 60-LB Sandbag Carry
  • HARD: 30-LB Sandbag Carry

RULES

  • Carry sandbag on back or shoulder.
  • Stay balanced and keep sure footing as you climb and descend.
  • No cutting lanes.
  • Return sandbag.

WALLS

A series of challenging wall climbs, straight up vertical 6 and 8-foot walls throughout the course that you have to overcome. Jump up, grab the top, and pull yourself up.

RULES

  • Climb up and over.
  • Non-competitive okay to have teammates help.
  • Optional to use the step to reach the top.

OVER IT

Back-to-back set of high hurdle challenges to climb over, testing your jumping, upper body strength to pull up and get over the hurdle.

RULES

  • Must get over the top of each hurdle.
  • Optional to use the step to reach.

RISE

A 15-foot rope climb using nothing but your wits, sweat, and full-body strength to get yourself up to the top to tap the stuffed critter and bell.

RULES

  • Climb up by any means possible.
  • Tap the stuffed animal/bell at the top before descending.

CRAWLS

Get down and low as you crawl through a variety of crawl challenges throughout the course. From our shorter Cargo Creep crawl to the extra-long Barbed Wire crawl to our Red Ring of Death crawl that goes on and on what feels like forever. This is where you'll get down and dirty to get through the obstacle challenge. Crawls type and locations will vary at each race.

RULES

  • Crawl, roll, scramble, to get across. 
  • No standing.
  • No going around.

WIRE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?

Pick up a large box of spooled wire and carry it on an out and back for 300 meters. Seems easy at first, but the longer you go the heavier it feels.

RULES

  • Must carry, don't drag or roll.
  • Can carry any way that works best for you.

THEY SEE ME ROLLIN'

Step up and use the rollers with your hands to pull the sandbag across the field. Give your wrists and forearms a serious workout.

RULES

  • Using the roller with hands only.
  • Roll all the way until the sandbag is can't slide anymore.
  • Once done, pick up the sandbag and return to starting position.

JACOB'S LADDER

A different kind of wall to get over with a huge gap to the upper section where you have to pull yourself up before you can take the easy ladder steps to get over, but then figure out how to get down the big gap on the other side.

RULES

  • Climb up and over.
  • Non-competitive okay to get a boost.

MULTI-RIG

The evolving multi-rig will change up every year to keep things fresh and challenging in new ways. Mixing it up with rings, rope, banana grips, cargo nets, and unknowns. Testing every part of your body and mental ability to traverse and cross to the end.

RULES

  • No touching the ground.
  • Hit bear/bell at end to dismount.
  • Okay to retry if you fall off, go to the back of the line.

TIMBER TANTRUM

Time to haul some wood.  Take a log, lift it up, and place it on your shoulder. Now walk with it for up to 400 meters. Awkward and challenging, testing your balance, agility, and grip as it feels heavier the longer you walk.

DIFFICULTY

  • HARDER: Red Logs
  • HARD: Plain Logs

RULES

  • Carry log.
  • Go the entire distance.

RUCK

Load up a weighted ruck pack on your back and run with it for a few miles. Adding weight when climbing hills and running trails can slow you down as it tests your agility and core strength.

DIFFICULTY

  • HARDER: 30-LB
  • HARD: 20-LB

RULES

  • Wear ruck on your back or front.
  • Keep ruck on for the entire duration of the section.
  • Drop off ruck at the return point.
  • If wearing a weighted ruck for the Ruck Division, then no need to pick up an additional ruck.

SAFETY VIDEOS

Obstacles can provide many challenges, both physical and mental, however, it is important to ALWAYS be safe and follow best practice with good form when entering into, doing, and exiting an obstacle. Below are a few instructional videos help guide you through some of the carry obstacles you will face on race day. Don't rush, take your time and set up right so you can get the best experience possible.

Bend at hips and knees, back straight, core tight, head neutral, stay in control, slow and steady pace, and remember to breathe!
